KA-BAR became famous for their knife design back in 1942 when the company submitted their design for a general use knife for the Marine Corps. The name "Kabar" became synonymous with their knife pattern, regardless of whether the knife was manufactured at the actual KA-BAR facility. The USMC KA-BAR was also adopted by the Army, Navy, Coast Guard, and Underwater Demolition Teams. The KA-BAR knives have been used ever since World War II including the Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, and Iraqi Freedom. Today the company still produces the knife that started it all and is still used by service men and women. The company has produced other variants of the knife for the civilian market for adventurers, survivalists, outdoorsman and women.
